Get ready for a major detour! The A12 is undergoing a significant closure near Yoxford, and it's going to be a long journey for drivers this weekend.
Our partners at USA Today have brought this exclusive update, and while it may not reflect The Herald's views, it's an important heads-up for anyone planning a trip.
A 50-mile diversion is in place, and that's no small detour! Suffolk Highways is working hard to improve the major route, but it's causing quite a disruption. The official detour, as outlined by the Suffolk County Council, is an extensive journey, adding considerable time to your travels.
But here's where it gets controversial... The extended route is necessary to accommodate larger vehicles like HGVs, which can't navigate the smaller rural roads. So, while some drivers might be tempted to take shortcuts, it's a no-go for those larger vehicles, and the detour is the only safe option.
And this is the part most people miss... This isn't the first closure on the A12. Earlier this month, a section near Melton was shut for improvement works. It seems like these disruptions are becoming a regular occurrence.
So, what do you think? Are these closures necessary evils, or could there be better solutions? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. It's a complex issue, and we welcome a friendly debate!
