Amid rising tensions, Canadian return trips to the U.S. are once again on the decline. According to the latest data, Canadian residents took 2.2 million return trips to the U.S. in November 2025, a 23.6% decrease from the same month in 2024. This follows a 26.3% drop in October and a 30.9% plunge in September. However, Canadians are still traveling internationally, with 1.1 million return trips from overseas in November, a 14.1% increase year-over-year. This shift in travel patterns coincides with the trade war launched by Donald Trump in 2025, which has soured Canadians' views of the U.S. A recent Ipsos poll revealed that 60% of Canadians can no longer trust Americans, and 71% predict ongoing tensions between the two nations. Despite this, Canadians are increasingly supporting domestic products and investments, with 56% of respondents indicating recent purchases and 58% actively avoiding American alternatives. The complex relationship between Canada and the U.S. continues to evolve, leaving Canadians navigating a delicate balance between international travel and national loyalty.
