Imagine a vibrant new indoor water park bringing the magic of beloved toys to life just minutes from Walt Disney World. That's exactly what Mattel is working on as the toy giant embarks on an exciting venture to create the Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterpark in Orlando, Florida. Following their announcement last November, anticipation is building for this innovative attraction that promises to blend fun and adventure with some of Mattel's most iconic brands.
The site designated for this ambitious project is strategically located along State Road 535, close to the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores and only about a ten-minute drive from the famous Walt Disney Resort. According to reports by Orlando’s Fox35, the park will occupy an impressive 11 acres, categorized in permit filings as part of a "tourist commercial resort." This means visitors can expect a range of attractions, including both indoor and outdoor water park features, retail options, and a family entertainment center—all designed to provide a full day of fun for families and thrill-seekers alike.
At the heart of the development is a sprawling 90,000-square-foot indoor water park, complemented by an 11,400-square-foot retail space and an exciting 42,000-square-foot slide zone. Additionally, outdoor amenities will include approximately 35,700 square feet dedicated to water park activities and an event lawn perfect for gatherings or celebrations. To accommodate the influx of guests, there will be ample parking, featuring both a garage and surface lots.
As for the attractions, Mattel is planning to incorporate themes from its popular brands like Barbie and Hot Wheels, ensuring visitors will have the chance to experience themed lazy rivers, exhilarating wave pools, and thrilling water slides—all designed to evoke a sense of nostalgia and joy.
Leading the design of this aquatic paradise is Martin Aquatic, a well-respected firm based in Orlando known for its expertise in water park facilities, having previously worked on notable projects such as Universal’s Volcano Bay and Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day at CocoCay. In collaboration with American Resort Management and developer Identity Group, Mattel aims to create a truly unique experience for guests.
This Orlando location marks just one of five planned Mattel Wonder Indoor Waterparks across the United States, with additional parks set to open in places like Bellevue, Nebraska, and Bradley, Illinois. These developments reflect Mattel's broader strategy to expand its presence in the location-based entertainment sector, leveraging its extensive portfolio of beloved intellectual properties.
