FPL is on the Scene, Assessing the Situation

As of 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026, over 1,200 customers in South Lee County are without power due to severe weather conditions, including high winds. FPL's repair crews are working diligently to restore service, with an estimated completion time of 7:45 p.m. for all affected customers.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory shortly after 2 p.m., warning of gusts up to 45 miles per hour and very cold winds. High winds were reported throughout the region, causing intermittent outages in some areas.

The NWS also issued a travel advisory, cautioning residents to dress appropriately for the cold and to avoid travel if possible. WGCU, a nonprofit public service, is urging the community to support public media by donating. Your support is crucial to keeping WGCU strong and providing essential news and information in Southwest Florida.
